In order to keep it relevant in today’s dynamic two-wheeler market, TVS recently updated the Apache RTR 160 2V. As is typical with TVS, it was a major overhaul for the RTR 160 and the bike now seems a lot more ready to take on its rivals. It’d be interesting to see how it fares against its 4-valve sibling, the Apache RTR 160 4V. Here’s a lowdown into what’s different between the bikes:
The meatiest differences in the two bikes are obviously two extra valves that the 4V gets. While it gets the same 159.7cc single-cylinder air-cooled mill, the four-valve configuration helps it to make 17.55PS at 9250rpm and 14.73Nm 7250rpm, which is a substantial 1.51PS and 0.88Nm more than the two-valved RTR 160. That said, the RTR 160 2V makes its peak power and torque at 500rpm and 250rpm lower respectively, compared to the 160 4V’s peak power in the Sport mode.
Both the bikes come with three riding modes: Sport, Urban and Rain. Under Urban and Rain modes however, the figures go down to 15.64PS and 14.14Nm for the RTR 160 4V. While TVS hasn’t specified the exact figures for the 2V, we expect a similar drop in power for it too.
While both the bikes feature a full-LCD instrument cluster that’s loaded with all the features you’ll ever need, the RTR 2V, in its latest update, gets Voice Assist, something that the 4V misses out on. Here’s what features they pack.
One look at both the bikes will tell you that they sport different design languages. The Apache RTR 160 4V looks the part of a quintessential streetfighter complete with sharp, sporty lines all over. The futuristic-looking all-LED headlight with fang-like LED DRLs complements the chiseled fuel tank extensions rather nicely.
The Apache RTR 160 2V, on the other hand, carries over the same design in its latest iteration too. It isn’t necessarily a bad thing as its target audience like the familiarity factor and anyway love the way it looks. That said, TVS has given it a modern touch with a new LED headlight, tailamp and sportier graphics now.
The Apache RTR 160 2V gets a double cradle Synchrostiff frame while the 4V gets a similar frame that’s a split unit. That said, the Apache RTR 160 2V’s drum variant tips the scales at 139kg while the disc variant weighs 140kg, meaning it’s 5kg and 6kg lighter than the RTR 4V’s drum and disc variants respectively.
There are other differences between the bikes under the skin as well. The Apache RTR 160 4V sports a monoshock while the RTR 160 2V still makes do with dual gas-charged shock absorbers. The former’s drum brake variant gets a 110-section tyre at the rear while its disc brake variant gets a 130-section radial tyre. The latter, on the other hand, comes with a 120-section unit at the rear for all the variants. Having said that, the front tyre on both the bikes is a 90-section unit.
The Apache RTR 160 4V has small, useful bits like span-adjustable levers, which the RTR 2V misses out on. In terms of dimensions, the RTR 4V has a 57mm bigger wheelbase. Its 800mm seat height is 10mm more than the RTR 2V’s.
