TVS Jupiter 125 CNG Scooter Coming Soon?

Quick News Highlights:

- TVS is working on a CNG powered scooter of its own

- It will put the CNG powertrain in the TVS Jupiter

- This will provide stiff competition to the Bajaj Freedom 125

The buzz about CNG two-wheelers has been on an all-time high after the launch of the world’s CNG bike, the Bajaj Freedom 125. And now it seems like TVS Motor Company is working on a scooter that will run on CNG.

Based on an exclusive report from another publication, the Hosur-based manufacturer has been working on two-wheelers running on alternative sources of fuel including CNG for a while now. The report also mentions that TVS has already developed an engine that runs on CNG and is now planning on adding it to the TVS Jupiter 125. It remains to be seen whether it’ll be a hybrid vehicle like the Bajaj Freedom 125 or a scooter that runs solely on CNG. If everything goes according to the manufacturer’s plan, then production of the CNG scooter is expected to be up and running by September - October 2024 and the launch could happen by the end of 2024 or early 2025. This will make the upcoming scooter the world’s first CNG scooter.

The arrival of more and more CNG two-wheelers will simply provide customers with more options to choose from between CNG, electric and petrol-powered vehicles. CNG two-wheelers promise lower running costs and more mileage than petrol-powered two-wheelers and will act as a middle ground between electric and petrol-powered vehicles.

The Bajaj Freedom 125 gets a 2kg CNG cylinder with a mileage of 102km per kg in CNG-only mode. It also gets an auxiliary petrol tank with a capacity of 2 litres and a mileage of 65kmpl in petrol-only mode. It is powered by a 125cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine producing 9.5PS and 9.7Nm. It doesn’t have any direct rivals yet but with TVS working on a CNG scooter of its own, it seems stiff competition is only a few months away for the world’s first CNG bike.
