The TVS Jupiter CNG scooter was unveiled at Auto Expo 2025 recently, and like many people, we’ve been asking only one question – Does the CNG Jupiter offer massive savings? In this article we will be calculating the running cost per kilometer of the Jupiter CNG to answer this very question.
The Jupiter CNG is powered by a bi-fuel 125cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine which produces 7.1PS and 9.4Nm. Compared to the petrol-powered TVS Jupiter 125, this is a drop of 1PS and 1.4Nm. The difference in performance will be quite noticeable, and the scooter might not seem as powerful as the Jupiter 125.
Now, coming to the fuel, the Jupiter CNG features a 1.4kg CNG tank and a 2-litre petrol tank. TVS claims that this gives the bike a total range of 226km, with 86km purely on CNG. When we calculate the per kilometer cost, we have to take into account the petrol prices and CNG prices.
Petrol prices average around Rs 103 per litre and CNG prices come to around Rs 82.5/kg. Both prices are national averages. With these prices we will be able to get a per kilometer cost that is Rs 1.42. This is decent but when we compare it to the TVS Jupiter 125, the difference is not that massive. If you are someone who travels 1000km a month then your monthly expense will be around Rs 1,420.
The TVS Jupiter 125 has a tested real-world mileage of 55kmpl. Which translates to around more than 250 kilometers when riding in both highway and city. So the per kilometer cost comes to around Rs 1.87. If you travel 1000km on a monthly basis, then you’ll be spending around Rs 1,870 per month.
Now, you might be wondering if the TVS Jupiter CNG might be worth the savings. Well, the difference comes down to Rs 450 per month. We also have to take into account the kind of costs you will incur both in terms of time and features. As far as time is concerned, you would be spending a lot more time fueling the bike at CNG stations every 2 days if you ride an average of 40-50km per day.
The price in terms of features is quite simple, you will be missing out on the massive underseat storage that the TVS Jupiter 125 has. As the TVS Jupiter CNG tank is mounted under the seat. This negates the biggest advantage the TVS Jupiter 125 has to offer.
One of the reasons many people buy scooters over a motorcycle is the better storage option that they have to offer. Add in the minuscule difference in terms per kilometer cost it doesn’t make much sense to get it. Judging by what we know so far, the scooter seems more like a proof of concept than a product which TVS might bring to the market.
