Scooters are a great way of doing daily commutes, and sporty ones take that experience to a whole new level. The performance scooters segment as well as the electric scooter segment are well received in India. And we take the best from both, well at least the one that is the most reliable e-scooter, and the other from the 125cc space, the Ather 450X and the TVS NTorq 125 Race XP, and pit them against each other in regards to real-world performance.
Acceleration |
Ather 450X |
TVS NTorq 125 Race XP |
0-40kmph |
3.41 seconds |
3.84 seconds |
0-60kmph |
6.94 seconds |
8.07 seconds |
Both the scooters are performance-oriented and manage to better most of their rivals in their segment. As you can see from the numbers, the Ather manages to get ahead of the NTorq just slightly in the 0-40 run but by more than a second in the 0-60kmph sprint. This is courtesy of the 450X’s 6kW electric motor producing a whopping 26Nm, which is a good 15Nm more than the NTorq’s 124.8cc engine.
With the ‘Warp Mode,’ the 450X darts off the line with enthusiasm and rapidly gains momentum. That said, the NTorq 125 does not disappoint when it comes to acceleration either, delivering a strong performance from the start to 60kmph. And it has the capabilities to go even quicker than 90kmph, which is where the 450X gets restricted to.
Roll-on |
Ather 450X |
TVS NTorq 125 Race XP |
20-50kmph |
3.48 seconds |
4.32 seconds |
Even in the roll-on acceleration test, the Ather takes the win with almost one second to spare as compared to the NTorq. Despite the NTorq’s healthy mid-range surge, it is no match for the instant shot of torque that the Ather provides from decent commuting speeds. Not to forget, it arrives in a light, aerodynamic and frugal body.
Braking |
Ather 450X |
TVS NTorq 125 Race XP |
80-0kmph |
43.50m |
34.93m |
60-0kmph |
22.14m |
18.36m |
One place where the Ather 450X lacks is the braking. Even though it gets discs on both ends with CBS, the braking hardware feels too sharp on moments, causing the rear to slide more often than not. The NTorq’s more predictable braking helps it stop sooner and in a calmer manner.
Mileage/Range |
Ather 450X |
TVS NTorq 125 Race XP |
City |
91.4km (Eco) |
54.33kmpl |
Highway |
- |
55.85kmpl |
While the comparison for the fuel efficiency/range test is not on the same level for both the scooters, considering their performance they offer decent figures. While it would take the Ather around 3.5 hours to recharge the battery to a full, it will take the NTorq a matter of seconds to fill its 5.8 litres fuel tank. In a sense it would give the NTorq more overall range, that said, the Ather will be much more cost effective.
