We have a strong reason to believe that Ultraviolette Automotive's next project will be an electric ADV. In a video posted by the company, the rider is seen swapping the road tyres with knobbies before hitting some trails. But fret not, it is highly unlikely that Ultraviolette will sell the F77 with knobbies as an ADV.
Ever since the Ultraviolette F77 made its first public appearance in 2019, enthusiasts have been eager to understand how their electric experience would pan out. Now that we finally know that the F77 could hit streets as early as the first half of 2022, what’s next for the Bengaluru-based startup?
In the two years that Ultraviolette has been laying low, it has made improvements to the battery pack as well as the motor. The company says that the base variant of the Ultraviolette F77 will offer 150km range while there will also be another battery pack with more range. Now, an electric motorcycle with a range of about 200km should be good enough for an ADV, right?
But don’t let that range anxiety kick-in already. Ultraviolette’s plan on not using a proprietary charging system but rather relying on 3-pin AC industrial smart sockets (government mandate May 2022 onwards) comes in handy. So, you can simply plug the bike at any charging point. And if you are wondering about slow charging speeds, Ultraviolette has got you covered with a compact fast charger that can fit in your backpack. So, mile-munching like a fuel-sipping ADV? Check.
With the range and the charging sorted, does Ultraviolette have a motor that can appease ADV enthusiasts? Heck yeah! All that instantaneous torque is every trail-hunting fanatic’s wet dream. And the F77’s mid-mounted motor delivers 90Nm (at the motor) and 27kW of peak power. Now, that should suffice for all the intended expeditions on and off the tarmac.
With all the testing the brand has been doing lately with the F77, we reckon the motor and the battery pack are definitely up for the job. But, the sporty setup of the F77 is unlikely to be the base for the ADV. So expect a heavily modified chassis with different suspension and touring-friendly ergonomics. Furthermore, we expect the bikemaker to make some changes to the F77’s console and plonk in features like navigation.
As much as we are thrilled to get an official word from Ultraviolette Automotive about their upcoming bikes, we still have a long way before the bikemaker announces its next step. But having procured its next round of funding from TVS Motor Company and Zoho Corporation, things could speed up a little.
