Polish custom builder Unikat Motorworks’ latest creation is the Yamaha TMaxxX, a souped-up version of the maxi-scooter that deserves a spot in your garage. And Unikat has pulled out all the stops to ensure that this project isn’t just eye-candy.
You can't tell that Unikat’s new project is actually the Yamaha TMax. The custom house has stripped the maxi-scooter off all the bodywork, including the stock subframe and lights. Instead, a stubbier subframe has been built, with mesh panels.
Now, with the shorter subframe, Unikat had to reposition the cooling system and the fuel tank, and the result couldn’t be much better. The radiator is now housed behind the mesh panel, while the fuel tank cover sits flush in the leather seat. Yes, while most of the design remains industrial with anodised finish on the body, the seat, and the handlebar grips add a hint of elegance.
The fascia of the TMaxxX could not have been any more distinct. The custom-built headlight assembly has an LED projector in the middle, flanked by LED DRLs. This setup is complemented by a smoked windscreen borrowed from the BMW C 400 GT.
Unikat hasn’t tinkered with the suspension, brakes, or the engine. That said, the TMaxxX uses a Malossi exhaust system. So, while this build largely serves an aesthetic purpose, the custom scooter is lighter by a whopping 30kg than the stock model. The 499cc engine continues to churn 44PS and 45Nm, but the way the performance is experienced will be different.
The Polish custom builder hasn’t put a price tag on the TMaxxX yet, but it definitely won’t come cheap. And, if you went gaga over this build, you’d definitely want to check this bonkers all-wheel drive Yamaha Niken.
