The upcoming affordable variant of the Bajaj Chetak has been spied testing and these are the clearest pictures of the electric scooter.
The upcoming variant gets a mid-mounted motor instead of a hub motor. This suggests that the upcoming variant may get a detuned version of the motor seen in the current Chetak’s base variant with a lower power output and top speed. For reference, the Chetak’s base variant gets a top speed of 73kmph and a range of 113km.
The spy shots suggest that the upcoming more affordable Chetak will come equipped with the old LCD console of the Chetak. It may either come with basic connectivity or might get the connectivity package as an optional feature. The upcoming electric scooter also gets a physical key while the higher variants come with a key fob. Moreover, the spied e-scooter has an apron-mounted utility hook and comes with two open cubby holes on the apron whereas the current-gen Chetak has a closed glovebox.
The upcoming Chetak in the spied images features a single-sided swingarm. Bajaj has equipped it with steel wheels and drum brakes at both ends to manage costs. It is expected to be launched in May or June 2024.
The upcoming Bajaj Chetak is expected to be the most affordable version of the Chetak and will likely be priced at around the Rs 1 lakh mark (ex-showroom including the Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme or EMPS 2024 subsidy). Once launched, it will rival the Ola S1 X, Ather Rizta, Ather 450S, and TVS iQube.
