The first half of December is shaping up to be busy, with several car launches and reveals on the horizon. Carmakers, such as Kia, Skoda, Toyota, and Honda have already set the stage to introduce new offerings in the market, and there could be a few surprising unveils or launches before the world goes on a long holiday to celebrate Christmas and New Year. Let us take a look at the cars coming next month.
Honda is all-set to launch the new-gen Amaze in India on December 4. The carmaker had earlier released official design sketches of the upcoming Amaze, and recently, real-life pictures of the new model were leaked online. Notably, the generational update brings a completely new design, a fresh interior, and new features to the sedan.
Having said that, the 1.2-litre engine is likely to be carried over from the current model that makes 90 PS and 110 Nm along with a 5-speed manual and CVT automatic transmission. We expect the new model to attract a small premium over the outgoing Amaze, which is priced at Rs 7.19 lakh (ex-showroom).
Skoda recently introduced the new Kylaq in India, with an entry-level variant priced at Rs 7.89 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom). On December 2, the carmaker will announce the full pricing of the SUV. The design of the Kylaq somewhat resembles the Kushaq, particularly the interior, yet it stands out with some fresh design elements.
Key highlights include a sunroof, powered and ventilated front seats, 10-inch infotainment system, fully digital 8-inch driver display, and ambient lighting. Safety equipment will include 6 airbags, brake disc wiping, and ESP. Powering the Kylaq is a 1-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that makes 115 PS/178 Nm, and comes mated to a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission.
The new generation Toyota Camry is set for launch in India on December 11. It gets a new design, fresh colours, revamped interior, new features, additional safety equipment, and a hybrid powertrain. Key features include dual 12.3-inch displays (comprising driver’s display and infotainment system), a panoramic sunroof, ventilated/heated front seats, 5 USB ports, and a heads-up display. Also on offer is Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) with a host of standard functions.
Internationally, the new Camry comes powered by an updated 2.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine paired with Toyota’s fifth generation hybrid system, which gets a new battery pack, two new electric motors, and reworked components. The combined power output of the front-wheel drive version stands at 225 PS, while the all-wheel-drive (AWD) version generates 232 PS. Prices of the upcoming Toyota Camry may start at Rs 48-49 lakh (ex-showroom).
Kia India is also readying to debut its all-new SUV, the Syros, on December 19. The brand has already released a few teasers, offering glimpses of the exterior of the upcoming model. It is expected that the Syros will sit between the Sonet and Seltos. Additionally, the SUV could boast more premium features than the Sonet, including a panoramic sunroof.
Going by the teasers, the new Syros will feature a modern design language in line with Kia’s latest electric vehicles (EVs), such as the EV3, EV6, and EV9. At the front, the SUV will sport vertically stacked LED headlamps adjoined by ‘I’ pattern DRLs, while the rear will feature L-shaped taillamps placed near the rear window. The Syros will have a straight roofline and bulged out fenders.
Kia Syros will likely be offered with a 1-litre 3-cylinder turbo-petrol (120 PS/172 Nm) and probably a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine (116 PS/250 Nm). Transmission options may include a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed iMT, and a 6-speed automatic. It is likely to be priced from Rs 8.50-9.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
