An updated Bajaj Chetak range will be launched on December 20, 2024. We do not expect a complete overhaul of the whole range, but rather a few major hardware and feature changes to the three variants.
Recently, the updated Chetak was spotted testing and in terms of design, the scooter remains unchanged. It has the same neo-retro design language with the round headlight and the sharp, unique-looking rear-end. The major changes are expected to be in the range output and the battery’s placement in the scooter.
In the updated Chetak models, we expect the battery to be placed underneath the floorboard. This would allow the electric scooter to have a much bigger underseat storage space, the lack of which has been an issue ever since its entry into the market. Also, the new Chetak models will have new battery cells sourced from a new supplier, which will in turn result in a higher range output. In August 2024, Bajaj Auto launched the Chetak 3201 Special Edition and it had the same 3.2kWh capacity battery pack as the top-end Premium variant but with a higher claimed range output of 136km (the Premium has a claimed 126km range output). This suggests that the new battery cells are more efficient and energy dense.
Currently, the Chetak 2903 has a 2.8kWh capacity battery with a claimed range of 123km while the 3202 and 3201 variants have 3.2kWh capacity battery packs and claimed range outputs of 137km and 136km respectively. Similar to the 3201 Special Edition, these three variants are expected to receive the more efficient and energy dense battery cells as well. Other changes expected are some new colour options. A full-fledged Google Maps navigation will surely put it at par with the Ather 450X in terms of features, but that is unlikely to happen this time around.
The prices of the updated Chetak range are expected to remain unchanged. Even if they are increased, the premium is expected to be not more than Rs 3,000 - Rs 5,000. The updated models will allow the Chetak to put on an even better fight against the electric scooters from Ather Energy, Ola Electric and TVS.
