Gets dual cylinder setup for more storage space in the boot
Hyundai has been rather busy with its Exter micro-SUV. Sales have been strong with nearly 1 lakh units sold since launch and it recently got a new Knight Edition as part of its anniversary. Now the Exter already had a powertrain CNG, but Hyundai has updated it to free up more boot space, by offering a dual-cylinder CNG setup. It is the same treatment we’ve seen on new Tata CNG vehicles, and here’s everything you need to know about it:
Exter CNG: Price
New Price (ex-showroom) |
Old Prices (ex-showroom) |

S CNG |
Rs 8.50 lakh |
Rs 8.43 lakh |
SX CNG |
Rs 9.23 lakh |

The updated CNG variants start from Rs 8.50 lakh and go up to Rs 9.38 lakh. In comparison to the equivalent petrol variant, the CNG variants carry a premium of exactly Rs 1 lakh over them.
Compared to the older prices, Hyundai has upped the prices for the CNG variants by Rs 7,000.
Exter CNG: Powertrain
The specs of the Exter’s CNG powertrain remain unchanged. The 1.2-litre NA petrol engine is paired with CNG, which puts out an output of 69PS and 95.2Nm in CNG mode. It is available with a 5-speed manual transmission only and has a fuel efficiency of 27.1 km/kg.
The tank’s capacity stands at 60-litres (water equivalent) after combining the capacity of both the cylinders. Hyundai offers an Integrated Electronic Control Unit (ECU), which helps shifting between CNG and petrol fuel, a flawless process even while driving as already prevalent on newer CNG models from Tata. As for warranty, the CNG system gets a standard cover of three years.
Exter CNG: Features
Given that the Exter CNG is offered in the mid-spec trims, you get a bunch of features like an 8-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, sunroof, auto AC, rear AC vents, electric ORVMs, and even LED DRLs and LED tail lights for the exterior.
It comes loaded with safety features as well, with the lies including 6 airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system, hill-hold assist, electronic stability control and ISOFIX mounts.
The Exter CNG misses out on some useful features like push button start/stop, connected car technology, voice assist for the sunroof, cooled glovebox, and rear wiper and washer.
Exter CNG: Rivals
The Hyundai Exter CNG is a direct rival to the Tata Punch, while offering a bigger alternative to cars like the Tata Tiago and Grand i10 Nios.
