Volkswagen Virtus to launch in May 2022.
Mid-spec trim gets downgraded LED headlights and monotone alloy wheels.
Niceties like digital driver’s display, ventilated front seats, and sunroof limited to top-spec trims.
Mid-spec trim will get 1-litre TSI engine, paired with 6-speed MT and AT.
Prices are expected to start from Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom).
Ahead of the Virtus’ launch, we have spotted the sedan in its mid-spec guise testing on the Mumbai-Pune expressway. Like the Taigun, the Virtus’ Dynamic Line is expected to come in three trims: Comfortline, Highline, and Topline. The 1.5-litre TSI engine will be limited to the top-spec GT trim with sporty design touches.
Naturally, the Virtus’s mid-spec trim gets a handful of cosmetic changes (read: downgrades) over the top-spec trim. As you can see, it gets reflector-based LED headlights instead of projector units. Also, the dual-tone alloy rims have been replaced by 16-inch monotone alloy rims. That said, Volkswagen has retained the chrome highlights on the grille and bumper as well as fog lights.
Inside, the Virtus’ mid-spec trim might miss out on niceties like a digital driver’s display, ventilated front seats, and a digital driver’s display. However, Volkswagen has confirmed that a 8-speaker sound system will be standard across the range.
Apart from that, the sedan should get a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car tech, a multi-info display, cruise control, steering mounted audio controls, keyless entry, and rear AC vents. Passenger safety in the mid-spec trim should be taken care of by dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and electronic stability control. Topline and GT trims will get six airbags.
The Virtus’ mid-spec trim will get just the 115PS 1-litre three-pot TSI engine, paired with a 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic. As we reported earlier, the 150PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol mill, paired with just the 7-speed DSG, will be limited to the top-spec GT trim.
The Volkswagen Virtus will go on sale in May and prices are expected to start from Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom). It will lock horns with the Honda City, Skoda Slavia, Hyundai Verna, and the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
