Will be equipped with 1-litre TSI and 1.5-litre TSI turbo petrol engines
Price announcement on June 9.
To be offered in Dynamic and Performance (GT) line trims
Features will include up to six airbags, electric sunroof, 10-inch infotainment system, and wireless phone charging
The upcoming Volkswagen Virtus sedan has reached dealerships ahead of its launch on June 9. It is the second VW car to be based on their MQB-A0-IN platform and replaces the outgoing Vento as the entry level sedan for the carmaker.
We expect the Virtus’ price range to start from Rs 11.5 lakh (ex-showroom) onwards for the Dynamic line, going up to Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-spec GT line. Official bookings for the sedan are underway.
At the front, the design language of the Virtus looks like an evolution of the Vento as it houses a sleeker front grille, LED projector headlights, and splashes of chrome all over the grille and the front lip below the gloss black airdam. Come to the rear, and you’ll notice elements resembling the Jetta. The split-LED taillamps look the part with their smoked tint finish and the 16-inch wheels are offered as standard.
The GT Trim takes it up a notch with bits like a rear spoiler, blacked-out ORVMs and alloy wheels, and red highlights throughout the cabin.
Step inside and you’ll be greeted with a dashboard layout that’s clean and minimalistic. The basic design language is quite similar to the Taigun with a decorative trim running across the width of the dash. And if you opt for the Wild Cherry Red colour in the GT trim, then this trim will be colour coordinated as well.
Notable features include a 10-inch infotainment system, an 8-inch digital driver’s display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control, 8-speaker sound system and ambient lighting. The list goes on with ventilated front seats, electric sunroof, wireless phone charging and keyless entry with start-stop button. On the safety front too, the sedan is packed with a plethora of equipment such as electronic stability control, up to six airbags, ISOFIX child mounts, a rear parking camera, tyre pressure monitoring system and hill hold assist.
Sharing its underpinning with its cousin, the Skoda Slavia, the VW sedan will get the same turbo-petrol options: a 115PS 1-litre TSI and a 150PS 1.5-litre TSI engine. Power will be delivered to the wheels using a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic with the 1-litre unit, while a 7-speed DSG will be paired to the bigger 1.5-litre engine.
Fun Fact: We’ve driven the VW sedan, and irrespective of the powertrain you go with, the Virtus won’t fail to put a grin on your face.
With its price reveal slated for June 9, we expect the sedan to be priced from Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) onwards. It’ll be a rival to the likes of the Skoda Slavia, Honda City, Hyundai Verna, and Maruti Ciaz.
