Volvo Cars India has announced that it has crossed over 1000 unit sales for its electric vehicles, which includes the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge, in the Indian market. The XC40 Recharge was the first EV from Volvo to enter the Indian market, back in November 2022. Furthermore, all these sales turnouts have happened via the brand’s online sales portal. All the Volvo EV customers also get exclusive membership to the brand’s luxury program called the “Tre kronor Experience”.
Adding to this, Volvo’s overall sales for the year 2023 grew by 31 percent in comparison to the sales in 2022. Both the EV’s, the XC40 Recharge and the C40 Recharge constitute 28 percent of the overall car sales of Volvo in the Indian auto domain.
Based on Volvo’s Compact Modular Architecture, the XC40 Recharge is available in two variants. A two-wheel drive “E60 Plus” variant with a 69kWh battery pack paired with a single-motor front-wheel-drive(FWD) producing 238 PS and 420 Nm with a claimed WLTP range of 475 km.
The more powerful all-wheel drive “E80 Ultimate” variant gets a 78kWh battery pack mated to a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup producing a whopping 408 PS and 660 Nm. They have a claimed WLTP range of up to 505 km. You can check out our impressions of the XC40 Recharge in our first drive review.
The Volvo C40 Recharge is the coupe alternative to the XC40 Recharge and comes in a single all-wheel drive variant. With a sloping roofline, this coupe electric SUV gets the same 78kWh battery pack mated to a dual motor setup producing identical figures of 408 PS and 660 Nm. The claimed WLTP range for this model stands at 530 km. To know more about the Volvo C40 Recharge, head to our first drive review.
Both the Volvo EVs are loaded with tech to the brim featuring a 9-inch infotainment system with built-in Google applications, a 12-inch digital driver’s display, a 13-speaker premium sound system by Harman Kardon, a panoramic glass roof and powered front seats with driver’s seat memory function. Safety has always been a paramount for Volvo, and thus both the EVs are equipped with 7-airbags as standard, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, a 360 degree camera with front and rear parking sensors and ADAS Level 2 features like blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and emergency braking.
