The Nissan Magnite’s new AMT transmission for the 1-litre NA petrol engine makes it the most affordable automatic SUV in India, but how quick is it?

The Nissan Magnite recently got the option of an AMT transmission with its 1-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. With prices starting from Rs 6.5 lakh for the Magnite automatic, it has become the country's most affordable automatic SUV. The AMT model is available in five broad trims and isn’t the only automatic option available with the Magnite as the turbo-petrol motor also gets a CVT.

Now on paper, the AMT with the NA petrol returns a better claimed fuel efficiency (19.7kmpl) compared to the CVT with the turbo-petrol (17.7kmpl). No surprises there. But can the AMT and the 1-litre NA petrol engine keep up in terms of performance? Watch this reel below for the answer as Ameya Dandekar, our chief editor, takes it for a test.

Fun Fact: The Nissan Magnite AMT gets a new Vivid Blue colour with a black roof, limited to the higher trims.

So the turbo CVT took 12 seconds for the sprint from 0 to 100kmph, which is leagues ahead of the leisurely 21.90-second time posted by the NA petrol AMT. So you can now take an informed decision before picking up a Magnite automatic. If performance is the priority, then go for the turbo CVT, but if you want a laid-back drive that’s also easy on the pocket, the NA petrol AMT is the pick for you.
