The Hyundai Exter is the Korean brand’s entry-level SUV that slots below the Venue in the carmaker’s lineup. Prices start from Rs 6 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). The Exter is offered in five broad trims and two powertrain options, details of which – including prices – can be found here.
We’ve spent some with the Hyundai Exter in both its manual and AMT guise. And in this report, we’ll be focussing on the latter. The Exter’s AMT gearbox is a 5-speed unit and, in a first, offers paddle shifters. Yes, in an AMT car! Now, AMTs are not known to be the smoothest shifting transmissions, so how does the Exter fare?

The Hyundai Exter’s main nemesis in the Indian market is the Tata Punch. Apart from that, the micro SUV also goes up against the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Citroen C3. You can also consider it as an alternative to some variants of the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.
