The Tata Altroz Racer has just been launched in India, offering a sportier alternative to the standard Altroz hatchback. Apart from its cosmetic and feature updates, it gets a new Nexon-sourced 1.2-litre engine, which produces 120 PS and 170 Nm and is paired to a 6-speed MT only. It is the only other ‘hot’ hatch in the country after the Hyundai i20 N Line.
It’s only natural to talk about how quick a car is when it poses to be a performance-oriented variant, or a ‘Racer’ in the Altroz’s case. Now, Tata says it’ll do 0-100kmph in 11.33 seconds, but that’s a claimed time by the carmaker, and we had to find out the true real-world time for ourselves.
So we strapped our resident enthusiast, Nabeel Khan, into the driver’s seat and kindly asked him to launch the car not-so-kindly. You can watch him go full send in the Altroz Racer in the reel below:
In a surprising turn of events, the Altroz Racer managed to beat the carmaker’s own claimed time for the sprint from 0-100kmph. And while that time isn’t the quickest by any means, the Altroz Racer is a fun little car, which has the potential to be a proper hot hatchback. What does it need more, you ask? Read this article to find out.
While Tata is offering it with a sole manual transmission, an automatic (DCT) could be launched later down the road. That dual clutch automatic transmission could be even quicker with its snappier shifts. What do you think?
The Altroz Racer is sold in three trims: R1, R2 and R3. Between those three, you get features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, sunroof, ventilated front seats, 8-speaker Harman Kardon premium sound system, wireless phone charger and ambient lighting. Its standard safety kit gets 6-airbags, ISOFIX mounts, ABS with EBD, and electronic stability control.
