This week's edition packs action from a host of carmakers, spanning various segments. We also got dope on a couple of upcoming electric vehicles, one of which is poised to become the most affordable EV in India. Internationally too, we saw a host of reveals including a four-door V12 Prancing Horse.
We’ve jotted down everything that made headlines the past week:
Tata is set to debut the Tiago EV on September 28 as its smallest electric offering. It will have no direct competitors and is likely to become the most affordable EV in the country. Tata’s Ziptron platform could be used for the Tiago EV as well, for a likely range of upto 300km.
BYD is set to bring its second electric vehicle for private buyers, the Atto 3, to India sometime in October. It will be a slightly larger alternative to the likes of the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona, offering a range of up to 420km.
Ferrari launched its first ever SUV called the Purosangue with a V12 engine producing 725PS and 715Nm. It is set to go on sale in 2023 in markets abroad. Just a few days since its launch and the Italian marque is already considering closing the order books to keep the production numbers and delivery timelines in check.

To commemorate its 75 years legacy, Land Rover launched a 75th Limited Edition of the Defender, available in the 90 and 110-series models. It gets unique cosmetic details inside-out along with the option of a foldable fabric roof– reminiscent of the Series 1 SUVs.
Ford is staying true to its roots with the reveal of the new-gen Mustang that still gets a V8 engine under the hood at a time where its rivals are taking the hybrid/electric route. The exact power outputs has not been revealed yet, but Ford confirmed that it will be the most potent naturally-aspirated V8 paired to a Mustang yet.
Updated Volvo XC90 to debut on September 21
The updated Volvo XC90 Recharge with a bigger 18.8kWh battery pack is set to debut on September 21. Its plug-in hybrid powertrain produces a combined 455PS and can drive the SUV in electric-only mode for a claimed distance of 73km. Expect the updated luxury SUV to command a price tag well over Rs 1 crore.

Being on somewhat of a hiatus for the past few years, Pagani surprised the automotive industry with the reveal of its latest creation, the Utopia. It steers clear of any electrification and employs a twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre V12 sourced from Mercedes’ AMG division. The 852PS and 1,100Nm are sent to the rear wheels only via either a seven-speed manual or a standard seven-speed Xtrac-sourced single-clutch automatic gearbox. .
Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari will kick off a new flex-fuel pilot project with Toyota in Delhi on September 28. Details about the model heading the project have not been revealed and the project might not showcase models actually meant to go on sale.
