With launches due for July mostly over, we expected a lull in the car world last week. Nonetheless, exciting spy shots showed up revealing an upcoming compact electric SUV as well as an India-bound hatchback.
Here’s our compilation of all the news stories you may have missed last week:
India’s first locally assembled global electric vehicle (EV), the Volvo XC40 Recharge, was launched in a single fully-loaded variant. It has a 408PS dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) powertrain and offers a claimed range of up to 418km on a single charge. The first batch of SUVs is sold out, but the XC40 Recharge is still available to book for the next set of deliveries.
A new teaser of the facelifted MG Hector on social media revealed the upcoming SUV’s massive 14-inch portrait infotainment display. The new Hector will be sold alongside its current version as a more premium offering. It’ll get all-new interiors and, similar to the MG Astor, driver assistance and active safety features.

The long-awaited XUV400 Electric was spotted in its production-spec form, ready to be unveiled in September. It’s longer than the ICE XUV300 subcompact SUV which should make for a more practical boot. We expect the Nexon EV rival to be offered with multiple battery sizes with up to 450km of range.
The fourth-generation Suzuki Swift was spied testing overseas with an all-new exterior and rounded front fascia. Interestingly, its rear fascia seems to bear resemblance to the first-generation Swift. The upcoming global hatchback is expected to make its way to India at Auto Expo 2023.
Back in April, the Ertiga had received new features such as side airbags, stability control (ESP) and hill hold assist, albeit limited to higher-spec variants. Now, Maruti has made ESP and hill assist standard across all variants. The pre-facelifted Ertiga had achieved a three-star rating in Global NCAP crash tests.
An official brochure revealed the Maruti Grand Vitara’s accessories and trim packages that the carmaker will offer upon the compact SUV’s launch in September. The Maruti flagship will be available with Enigmax X and Enigmax accessory packages and functional customisations such as a roof rack and side steps among a wide array of other accessories.
Good news! The seventh-generation Ford Mustang is slated to break cover in September at the Detroit Auto Show, and it could be India-bound around 2024. Meanwhile, the Suzuki Jimny Sierra 4Sport was launched in Brazil as a limited edition factory-built overlander complete with a snorkel air intake, wide metal roof rack, off-road bumpers and side rock rails. We also get a first look at the Mini Aceman crossover concept ahead of its unveiling its new Aceman crossover concept with a light-up dashboard and the world’s first circular screen.
