The second month of 2022 is upon us and its first few days were, well, quite action-packed. Here are the top five happenings from this week:
Special Edition Kawasaki Z650RS Hits Indian Market
Kawasaki began its 2022 onslaught by launching the Z650RS 50th anniversary edition in India. The special edition Z650RS celebrates the golden jubilee of Kawasaki’s Z lineup and comes wrapped in a special deep brown livery inspired by the ‘Fireball’ colour option of the 1972 Z1. The bike also gets golden alloys and 50th anniversary badging. For pricing, delivery details, and specs, head to our launch story.
Triumph-Bajaj Bikes Spotted For The First Time
By far the biggest news this week was the first ever sighting of Triumph’s baby bikes, built in alliance with Bajaj.
Two bikes – a neo-retro model and a scrambler — were spotted doing the rounds overseas, revealing a lot of information. Both bikes were powered by a single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine (expected to be a 350cc unit), a first for Triumph. However, the two models differed in terms of tyre sizes and a few aesthetic tidbits. We also have reason to believe that the neo-retro model might not be the sub-Rs 2 lakh model Bajaj and Triumph had promised, but a more premium offering to rival the Honda CB300R.
To know more about the neo-retro mode, head here, while if you’re interested in the scrambler, you should check this story.
Lighter & Faster Custom Yamaha TMax Unveiled By Unikat Motoworks
Unikat Motoworks, a Polish custom bikemaker, introduced a tricked out Yamaha TMax to the world. The scooter bids adieu to the bulky maxi-scooter design and switches to a sleek flowing one. And since there’s a lot less bodywork, it is a massive 30kg lighter than before. The peak power, though, remains as is. Intrigued by this custom TMaxxX? Well, we suggest you read all about it here.
2022 Honda Vario 160 Unveiled
This week, Honda unveiled the heavily updated 2022 Vario 160 to take on the Yamaha Aerox 155 in Southeast Asian markets. The Vario has been in the company’s portfolio since 2006, but in its latest update, it gets a new design and a bigger 160cc engine. All-LED illumination, USB charging port, single disc brakes at both ends, and keyless entry are some of its features.
Oben EV Electric Motorcycle Incoming!
Bengaluru-based startup Oben EV has announced it’ll launch a new electric motorcycle very soon, probably in March 2022. The name remains a mystery for now, but the company has revealed the bike will boast a 100kmph top speed and 200km of range (in ideal conditions).
Oben EV has also announced its future plans for the next two years. More on that in our dedicated story.
