The teaser showcases the ‘X Line’ badging on the car.
Likely to be based on the top of the range GTX+ trim.
Expected to be launched in September.
Could charge a premium of around Rs 30,000 over the standard trim.
Changes could include minor cosmetic revisions.
The first teaser of the Kia Sonet X Line has been released ahead of its expected launch in September. It’ll become the Sonet’s flagship trim, positioned above the existing GTX+.
While the teaser was brief and didn’t give out much information, we expect the Sonet X Line to get changes in line with the Seltos X Line. These could include a few cosmetic alterations to set it apart from the standard trims. ‘X Line’ badges, red inserts on the grille, new colour hues, and redesigned alloy wheels are a few exterior changes that are expected to be incorporated along with a few revisions to the cabin, including new upholstery and the addition of some creature comfort equipment.
We expect no mechanical revisions as it is likely to deploy the same powertrain options as the GTX+ trim. A (120PS/172NM)1-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel with an output of up to 115PS and 250Nm. While the turbo-petrol will be paired either to a 6-speed iMT (clutchless manual) or a 7-speed DCT, the diesel will get a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic option.

The X Line trim will likely build upon the top-end GTX+ trim and is expected to charge a premium over its price tag that ranges between Rs 12.59 lakh to Rs 13.79 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Going by the pricing of the Seltos X Line, it could cost Rs 30,000 more than the standard variants.
With the Hyundai Venue N Line up for launch soon and the addition of the facelifted Maruti Brezza to the sub-4m compact SUV fray, the Sonet needed a boost. And the X Line is hoping to be just that. It is expected to be launched in September 2022 and will fend off competition from other sub-4m SUVs including the Kiger, Tata Nexon, Nissan Magnite, and Mahindra XUV300.
