Yamaha Is Gearing Up For Some Serious Launches in 2023

Yamaha has kept it on the down low in India lately by offering only small capacity motorcycles up until now. The FZ-25 is the biggest capacity bike here, however, that is likely to change this year as the Japanese bikemaker has some interesting plans for India.

Neo’s electric scooter

Yamaha showcased the Neo’s electric scooter in India earlier this year, head here for that story. In a recent exclusive interview with Eishin Chihana, Chairman of Yamaha India, we found out that the Japanese marque is working on getting the thermal management of its EV platform right for the varied weather conditions found across India. So it is quite likely that Yamaha could debut this scooter in India in 2023. It will be on the expensive side as it will initially be assembled here. Expect the e-scooter to be priced at around Rs 2.5 lakh.

YZF-R7

Yamaha has confirmed that it will be bringing its big bikes in India, however, in just limited quantities. The new YZF-R7 is finally going to make its way to India, and saying that we are excited, will be an understatement. It is powered by a 689cc, twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine making 73.4PS and 67Nm, phew, those are some feisty numbers. It could be priced at around Rs 10 lakh and could be launched in the first half of 2023.

MT-07 & MT-09

Adding to its big bikes lineup, MT-07 and MT-09 streetfighters will be making their way to India as well via the CBU (completely built units) route. Both bikes are aggressive machines acclaimed in the middle-weight bike segment. While the MT-07 borrows the engine from the R7, the MT-09 gets a 890cc liquid-cooled three-cylinder mill making 94PS and 93Nm. Expect the MT-07 and MT-09 to be priced at Rs 7.50 lakh and Rs 11.50 lakh respectively and debut in the first half of 2023.

FZ-X25

There's no denying that the retro segment is growing in India, more so in the affordable end of the spectrum. The Royal Enfield Hunter 350 is a true testament to that fact. So, in a bid to capture this burgeoning segment, Yamaha could launch a neo-retro bike based on the FZ-25, similar to FZ-X, perhaps an FZ-25X? Yamaha has the engine, and the platform, a possibility of this happening is quite real, and we are more than interested in what Yamaha cooks up.
