[UPDATE: Yamaha has launched the MT-15 Version 2.0 in India. Check out all the details about the bike in our launch story]
Yamaha Motor India has reported zero sales of its popular naked, the MT-15, for February 2022. This development just reinforces our conjecture that the Japanese bikemaker will launch the updated model next month.
As per the SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) sales report for February 2022, not only were there no MT-15s sold, but the production was down to just 120 units (of which 80 were exported). For reference, Team Blue sold 6176 units of the naked in the same month last year.
The Yamaha MT-15 had been consistently raking in good sales for the manufacturer until the bikemaker decided to strategically scale down its production. Take a look at the sales numbers of the bike in the past few months.

This clearly indicates that the update for the naked is due soon. In fact, the April 11 dealer event invite leaked online last week could mark the debut of the 2022 Yamaha MT-15.
Last year, we broke the news that Yamaha has been working on getting a dual-channel ABS system for the MT-15. This was followed by another exclusive news: even Bluetooth connectivity has been planned for the motorcycle.
The 2022 Yamaha MT-15 could also get the USD fork derived from the YZF-R15 V4. We can expect a bunch of new colours, as the ‘Customise Your Warrior’ programme has been discontinued for this bike.
The new MT-15 is unlikely to borrow other features from its supersport siblings (like traction control and the quickshifter) to keep prices in check. Currently, the Yamaha MT-15 carries a price tag of Rs 1,46,900 (ex-showroom, Delhi). With all the expected updates, Yamaha could bump up the price by Rs 5,000.
This bike doesn’t have a direct rival in our market but faces competition from the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V and the KTM 125 Duke.
