December is always a happy month and signifies holidays, festivals and gifts. So Yamaha has decided to become Santa Claus this year and bless us with the Yamaha R3 and MT-03, launching them in India tomorrow.
What’s the biggest highlight? Well, they are powered by a smooth and symphonious 321cc parallel-twin motor and are a delight to ride. Read the full review of the R3 here, and if you want to know what the MT-03 is like, then click here for the streetfighter's review.
Now sure, Yamaha is Santa, but these gifts will come at a high price, and no, the price isn’t being a good boy or girl. You see, both bikes will be imported in India from Thailand via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route, so expect the supersport to cost somewhere around Rs 4 lakh and the streetfighter to go for somewhere around Rs 3.8 lakh.
We know, it is a steep price for what essentially is a sub-350cc motorcycle, especially with the Aprilia RS 457 in the picture that has been launched in India at Rs 4,10,000 (ex-showroom Maharashtra). There is still hope, though, for if there is enough demand, Yamaha is likely to bring the bikes via the CKD route, which shall drop the price by a significant margin, eventually.
A day’s wait and we shall know how the bikes will fare against (in terms of price) their rivals including the KTM RC 390, Kawasaki Ninja 300, KTM 390 Duke, Triumph Speed 400 and the TVS Apache RTR 310.
