Yamaha has amped up the appeal of its XMax 300 maxi-scooter by launching an ‘SP’ version for the Thai market. The biggest update for the scooter comes in the form of the Ohlins rear shocks. Yep, you get blingy Swedish suspension components for the scooter.
What’s the damage to your wallet for this particular model? 2,09,000 Thai Baht or Rs 4.70 lakh, without factoring Indian taxes and duties. That’s some serious money for a 300cc scooter but still not as much as the BMW C 400 GT costs in India.
While the suspension upgrade remains the major highlight, the XMax also arrives in a new special grey colour that contrasts well with the red accents and wheels. Even the seat cover gets red stitching, signalling its sportier appeal.
Sadly, no change to the engine tune, the 292cc liquid-cooled single produces 27.6PS and 29Nm like usual. It runs on the same 15-/14-inch wheel setup with disc brakes at both ends anchoring the bike. Also, the 13-litre fuel tank should be more than capable of fuelling all of your touring dreams.
Unfortunately, the XMax 300 will not see the light of day in India, at least for the foreseeable future. We have to be content with the Aerox 155 which, to be fair, doesn’t disappoint too much either. The R15-based Aerox was the quickest scooter in our recent performance scooters test, beating the Ather 450X and other 160cc scooters by some margin.
