If you had your eyes set on the new Citroen Basalt, then this news is for you as select dealerships have opened bookings for the upcoming SUV-coupe. The Basalt, which basically goes head-on against the soon to launch Tata Curvv, will be launched on our shores in early August. Here’s everything you need to know about it before you go ahead and book one:
Recently, Citroen took the wraps off the production-spec Basalt’s exterior design ahead of its introduction and we must say it looks identical to the Basalt Vision concept that debuted in March 2024.
You get a familiar looking face as the C3 and C3 Aircross with a sleek grille and the V-shaped LED DRLs, but with more muscle. The headlights, though, have been upgraded to LED projector units and the bumper has a tweaked design for its unique identity.
One of the stand out bits in the side profile is its SUV-coupe silhouette. But adding a dash of ruggedness here are the body cladding around the wheel wells, which are filled up with dual-tone alloys. LED tail lamps and a rear bumper with skid plate round off the overall design.
The Basalt’s interior is yet to be revealed, but teasers have hinted the dashboard layout to be identical to the C3 and C3 Aircross. That said, it is expected to get a different colour scheme to set it apart from the other two. A teaser has also hinted at the presence of automatic climate control, hinting that the Basalt will get more features than the existing Citroen models.
Other expected additions include cruise control and push button start apart from the usual such as a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, power windows and steering mounted audio controls.
Passenger safety should be taken care of by six airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors with camera and electronic stability control.
The Citroen Basalt is expected to be powered by a 110 PS 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. It should be offered with both six-speed manual and optional six-speed torque converter automatic transmission options. Entry-level models could also get the option of the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine.
The Citroen Basalt is likely to be priced from around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). It will lock horns with the upcoming Tata Curvv as well as other compact SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, VW Taigun and MG Astor.
