You Can’t Buy The Jeep Compass Petrol With A Manual ‘Box Anymore

• Jeep Compass Sport Petrol MT discontinued. 
• Compass petrol now offered only with seven-speed DCT in India.
• It’s powered by a 163PS ,1.4-litre, turbo-petrol engine.
• No change in entry-level pricing. 

Jeep India has discontinued the petrol-MT powertrain in the Compass’ base-spec Sport trim. With this deletion, the premium midsize SUV’s petrol engine will now be available with an auto ‘box only. But the good news is there is no change in entry-level pricing as the diesel-MT and petrol-DCT powertrains in the Sport trim have been retained. 

Powering the Compass petrol is a 163PS, 1.4-litre, turbo-petrol engine driving the front wheels. It was offered with a slick-shifting six-speed MT. However, from now onwards, your choice is limited to the seven-speed DCT for the petrol option. Meanwhile, you still get the impressive 170PS, 2-litre diesel that can be had with a six-speed MT with front-wheel drive and nine-speed AT with all-wheel drive. 

Meanwhile, the Sport Petrol MT trim in the Compass came packed with features such as an 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system, single-zone climate control, keyless entry, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Higher variants get a larger 10.1-inch infotainment, digital driver’s display, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, and ventilated front seats as well. 

We suspect this move could have been done due to low demand for this particular variant. That said, its rivals such as the Hyundai Tucson and VW Tiguan get only automatics with their petrol engines, while the Citroen C5 Aircross doesn’t even get a petrol powertrain.
