With growing safety concerns and buyers now being more aware of safety features, automakers are trying to make their car’s safety a top priority! Safety features not only attract buyers but also help cars get a better rating in the stringer safety crash tests. Maruti Suzuki has now upgraded the safety suite of the Celerio hatchback by giving it 6 airbags as standard across all variants. Earlier, it only used to come with dual front airbags.
The popular Wagon R has still not received this essential safety upgrade and is offered with only 2 airbags. Safety should be a primary factor in your buying decision which is why we believe that for similar money, you should pick the Maruti Celerio over the Wagon R. The Swift and Baleno are other two Maruti hatchbacks that come with 6 airbags, but both priced significantly higher than the Celerio.
Here’s an overview of the Celerio:
The Maruti Celerio is positioned above the Alto K10 and S-Presso in Maruti’s India lineup. It is priced from Rs 5.64 lakh to Rs 7.37 lakh (ex-showroom).
It comes packed with features such as a 7-inch touchscreen, push-button start/stop, keyless entry, steering-mounted audio controls, 4 speakers and manual AC. In terms of safety, it gets 6 standard airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, reverse parking sensors, and three-point seatbelts for all passengers.

It comes with a 1-litre petrol engine which makes 67 PS and 89 Nm. The engine can be had with both, a 5-speed manual and an AMT gearbox. Additionally, you also get the option to opt for the CNG kit with a reduced power output of 57 PS and 82 Nm.
The Celerio’s key rivals include the Maruti Wagon R, Hyundai Grand i10 and the Tata Tiago.
With the necessary upgrade, India’s most fuel-efficient car is now also one of the few cars in its price range to get as many as 6 airbags! We hope Maruti also updates the Wagon R with more airbags, giving buyers the option to choose between both Maruti hatchbacks if safety is their top priority, which it should be.
