The first-gen Duster was pulled off the Indian shelves back in 2022, and is set to make a comeback two generations later, likely in 2025

  • New-gen Renault Duster breaks cover.

  • Styling follows similar treatment as the Bigster concept SUV.

  • Revised interior gets sharp styling elements and new features.

  • Top features include heated seats, 10.1-inch infotainment system and ADAS features.

  • Gets multiple powertrains including petrol strong- and mild-hybrid, no diesel on offer.

  • Likely to reach India sometime in 2025.

The new Renault/Dacia Duster has kept us busy with a myriad of spy shots and leaked images surfacing from time to time. But the guesswork is now behind us, as the new-gen 2024 Duster has been unveiled globally. And good news for those keeping an eye on this particular car as it’s India bound. Here’s everything you need to know about it:

New-gen Renault Duster Design

For the design of the new Duster, it seems like Renault drew the concept (Bigster) model, and said ‘Right, this works. Maybe a few tweaks here and there from the concept and we have the new-gen Duster’. Similarities are apparent all over the exterior.

A similar nose brings Y-shaped LED DRLs integrated within the headlights itself. It gets inserts on the grille that seem to connect the LED DRLs, adding a sweet styling touch along with the scoop and muscular haunches on the hood, which gives it a post-gym pump.

The profile is beefy with its rugged squared-off wheel arches with cladding and flared rear fender. It also gets roof rails which, along the tapering window line, give it a sporty touch. Another sporty touch can be found in the roof spoiler, which looks rather prominent because of the way the rear windscreen slopes downwards.

Keeping the design coherent, the taillights also imitate a ‘Y’ shape, flanking the upright tailgate. The chunky rear bumper, just like the one at the front, adds ruggedness to its design. Overall, compared to the first-gen India-spec Duster, the changes are so significant that an uninitiated person might not be able to tell this is a Duster.

New-gen Renault Duster Cabin

The interior of the new-gen Duster gets an overhaul as well. A 10.1-inch floating infotainment system dominates the chunky dashboard, which seems to take inspiration from a Lamborghini Urus for its air vent design.

The overall styling looks sharp with edge-defined elements all around. There are physical buttons for HVAC controls below the central AC vents and you also get a bunch of storage spaces all around. A noteworthy neat touch is the dedicated phone holder between the touchscreen and digital driver’s display.

Features include a fully digital instrument cluster, Type C charging ports, heated front seats (likely to be ventilated in India), automatic climate control and in-built navigation for the touchscreen system. Safety features include multiple airbags, electronic parking brake, hill-hold assist, and most importantly, ADAS.

New-gen Renault Duster Powertrains

As the Renault Duster enters a new generation model, it has left behind its gasoline (diesel) engine in exchange for multiple petrol hybrid powertrain options. The first comes in the form of a 130PS, 1.2-litre petrol powertrain paired to a 48V mild hybrid system. The other is a strong hybrid powertrain comprising a 140PS 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired to two electric motors and a 1.2kWh battery pack.

The third powertrain is devoid of any electrifications and uses a combination of petrol and LPG for its propulsion duties. India is likely to get the mild hybrid powertrain. We'll bring you the full powertrain details when we get the complete specifications.

New-gen Renault Duster India launch

Renault could bring the Duster sometime in 2025, which will mark its comeback after a three year hiatus in India. It could be priced around the Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom) mark, and will rekindle its rivalry with the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
