Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara: Similarities And Differences Expected Over Toyota Hyryder

Maruti Suzuki is preparing to take the wraps off what is probably its most important unveiling of the year, the Grand Vitara. With this particular model, the carmaker will be entering the hotly contested compact SUV segment. The Grand Vitara is nothing but Suzuki’s version of the newly unveiled Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Both the models will have distinctive identities. 

So without further ado, here are two differences and similarities between the Grand Vitara and Urban Cruiser Hyryder. 

Design – Unique Identities

Both the SUVs will have unique identities. And a teaser from Maruti has already confirmed the presence of connected LED tail lamps instead of the split units seen in the Hyryder. Apart from that, the Grand Vitara will get a different fascia with Suzuki’s styling language, different alloys, as well as revised bumpers. 

Sadly, the difference between both models won’t be night and day like the Skoda Kushaq and VW Taigun or Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. 

Interior - Minor Differences

The Toyota Hyryder’s interior, with its black/brown colour scheme, is already a great place to start with. The Grand Vitara might utilise the same interior, albeit with a different colour scheme and upholstery, a treatment that was done with the Baleno and Glanza. And like the Hyryder, the Grand Vitara will be a feature-loaded offering as seen in the next section. 

Features Onboard - Same 

In terms of features, the Grand Vitara will borrow all the kit from the Hyryder, including a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital driver display, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a panoramic sunroof, connected car tech, ventilated front seats, a head-up display, ambient lighting, Arkamys-tuned sound system and cruise control. 

Occupant safety will be taken care of by six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and ISOFIX anchorages. 

Powertrain Options - Same

No changes expected up here as well. So the Grand Vitara will get the 1.5-litre engine with mild and strong-hybrid options. The former will be developed by Maruti Suzuki, while the latter will be taken care of by Toyota. Plus, the mild hybrid motor will be offered with segment-exclusive optional all-wheel drive.

Expected Price And Rivals 

The Grand Vitara is expected to be priced from around Rs 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom), like the Hyryder. It will lock horns with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, and VW Taigun.
