Mercedes-AMG One: F1 Inspired Hypercar Smashes Nurburgring Lap Record

6 minutes, 35.138 seconds. That’s the fastest lap time set by the Mercedes-AMG One, making it top the charts when it comes to the fastest production cars lapping around the Nurburgring. Previously, this record was held by the Porsche 911 GT2 RS, which set a time of 6 minutes, 43.3 seconds. Clearly, all the F1 wizardry has helped the One extend its lead by a whopping eight seconds! 

The fact that track conditions weren’t ideal adds testimony to its achievement. Though the weather was sunny with mild winds, the track was damp with the ideal racing lines not fully dried up. Despite that, DTM driver Maro Engel took to the track, especially in the closing stages, and managed to set a perfect lap record. 

Mangel made full use of the car’s insane aerodynamic wizardry while setting the lap record. The drive mode was dialled all the way up to Race Plus, meaning a lower ride height of 37mm at the front and 30mm at the rear, full power from the powertrain, and maximum possible aerodynamics. 

Commenting on this exciting ride, Maro Engel, DTM driver, said, “I didn’t expect that we would be able to set such a lap time with these track conditions. In some crucial areas of the track, it hadn’t dried completely yet and was therefore tricky. It was definitely something very special to drive this incredible car on the Ring.”
