In September, the Wuling Almaz, MG Hector’s Indonesian cousin, was unveiled with a strong-hybrid powertrain. Now, details of the power unit have been revealed as the strong-hybrid variant has been launched in Indonesia at Rp 470,000,000 or around Rs 25 lakh in India.

The Almaz strong-hybrid pairs a 2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine developing 123PS and 168Nm with an electric motor putting out 174PS and 320Nm. It also gets a 1.8kWh battery pack, an e-CVT and is front-wheel drive. The Almaz hybrid gets three driving modes: EV mode (driven by pure electric power), Series Hybrid (driven by the electric motor as the engine charges the battery) and Parallel Hybrid (driven by both the engine and electric motor).

As mentioned in our earlier report, the Almaz hybrid gets plentiful blue highlights inside and out to denote that it’s the hybrid variant. It gets all the features from the India-spec MG Hector, plus Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) such as lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, collision avoidance assist and automatic emergency braking.

In India, MG is preparing to launch the facelifted Hector by 2022-end, with a cosmetic refresh, a revamped interior with an even larger touchscreen and ADAS as well. That said, it remains to be seen if MG will offer this new strong-hybrid powertrain with the facelifted model or not. At the moment, the only electrified powertrain offered in the Hector is its 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with mild-hybrid tech. The upcoming facelifted Hector will likely command a premium over the current model, which is priced from Rs 14.43 lakh (ex-showroom), and rivals the Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV700, and Jeep Compass.
