Apart from a light facelift, it’ll get a mild hybrid powertrain with a small power bump

Update: The XC40 had been previously reported to be due on September 21, but the carmaker has now announced that it's the XC90 Recharge SUV that will be unveiled on the aforementioned date.

  • Revised XC40 SUV gets new pixel LED headlights and bumper design.

  • Features include Google OS, panoramic sunroof and ADAS systems.

  • Expected to be powered by a 2-litre turbo petrol engine paired with a new mild-hybrid system.

  • Likely to be priced higher than its predecessor that retailed from Rs 44.5 lakh onwards (ex-showroom).

The ICE-powered facelifted Volvo XC40 will be launched in India soon. It gets a slew of small updates inside out, alongside a new mild-hybrid petrol powertrain that’s claimed to be 15 per cent more fuel efficient than before.

New XC40 gets mildly redesigned exteriors and interiors

We’ve already seen a prequel of the XC40’s design changes with the launch of its all-electric sibling, the XC40 Recharge. “Facelift” may be a strong term to describe its updated exteriors; untrained eyes might be unable to spot the changes here.

Nevertheless, the XC40 has received important updates – redesigned pixel headlights with 84 LEDs, a new wheel design and revised bumpers. The front bumper has new fog light surrounds, while the rear bumper features a redesigned lower trim element.

In addition, the new XC40 will also get a wider choice of paint options, including new Fjord Blue, Sage Green, Thunder Grey and Bright Dusk shades.

Inside, the updated SUV gets a new shift lever that takes its luxury quotient a notch upwards. Apart from new wood trim on the dashboard, the SUV’s cabin is unchanged. It’s already impeccably equipped with a portrait-style touchscreen backed by an Android operating system (OS), panoramic sunroof, PM 2.5 cabin air filtration system and 13-speaker Dirac sound system.

New, more efficient petrol powertrain

The XC40 is likely to get a similar 2-litre turbo petrol engine as before, but now paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and 13PS/40Nm e-motor. The new powertrain is good for 197PS and 300Nm combined (7PS more than before) and is claimed to deliver better fuel economy than before, up to 15kmpl (WLTP Combined).
