Nissan India has showcased the Qashqai premium midsize SUV that could potentially be launched in the country. The carmaker will begin testing the Qashqai soon and if it passes the test, it will be launched in our market. For the unknown, the Qashqai is Nissan’s premium midsize SUV, with plentiful upmarket features and even a strong-hybrid powertrain.
Here are top five things you need to know about the Qashqai:
The Nissan Qashqai, with its sharp cuts and creases, is a sporty looking SUV. The sleek L-shaped LED headlights that flank the V-shaped grille look quirky and unique on the road. In profile, the sloping roofline as well as the lines and creases gives the SUV a nice sporty look. Top-spec models also get 20-inch alloys that nicely fill the arches. Split-LED tail lamps round off the overall design.
If the Qashqai’s exterior looks sporty and futuristic, its interior, on the other hand, looks minimalistic and upmarket. A large 12.3-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system takes centrestage, while the AC vents and climate control knobs are positioned below it. Last but not least, the driver gets his own party piece with the 12.3-inch digital driver’s display.
You get plentiful upmarket features such as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected car services, a 10.8-inch head-up display, dual-zone climate control, powered front seats with massaging function, a panoramic glass roof, and a powered tailgate. Passenger safety is taken care of by multiple airbags, electronic stability control, ISOFIX child seat mounts, and a full suite of ADAS features.
The Qashqai, in the UK market, comes with two powertrain options: a 1.3-litre mild-hybrid turbo-petrol developing 140PS and 158PS or a 1.5-litre strong-hybrid petrol engine putting out 190PS (combined). The turbo-petrol engines come with a choice of 6-speed manual or a CVT, while the strong hybrid gets an automatic only. Front-wheel drive is standard, while the 158PS turbo-petrol engine can be had with optional all-wheel drive.
The Qashqai, if launched in India, is expected to be brought as a fully imported unit and that means it won’t be affordable. You can expect prices to start above the Rs 30 lakh mark, putting it in contention with the Volkswagen Tiguan, Citroen C5 Aircross, Hyundai Tucson, and Jeep Compass.
