People wanting a sportier Altroz have their prayers answered now as Tata Motors has launched the Altroz Racer from Rs 9.49 lakh (ex-showroom). It gets a sporty paint scheme, a couple of updates inside the cabin, new features and most importantly, a more powerful engine. The Tata Altroz Racer is available in three broad trims: R1, R2 and R3. In this gallery, we are going to take a closer look at the mid-spec R2 variant.
On the outside, there is positive news to report as this mid-spec variant looks identical to the top-end version. That means you get that nice dual-tone paint scheme, which extends all the way to the hood with dual white stripes. Speaking of colours, the Altroz Racer is available in three hues: Atomic Orange, Pure Grey and Avenue White.
In profile, you’ll notice that the alloys have a darker finish to them for a sportier look. Keen eyed viewers will also notice that there is a ‘RACER’ badging on the front fender to denote the variant you’re driving.
At the rear, just as it is at the front, you’ll notice that the Tata logo has been blacked out. A peek underneath the rear bumper also reveals the presence of dual exhaust tips instead of the single tip of the standard Altroz.
Step inside the Altroz Racer and you'll be greeted by an all-black dashboard with orange accents around the AC vents. The seats are draped in leatherette upholstery and you get dual orange and one white stripe.
To gel along with the overall theme, the ambient lighting is also in orange as opposed to blue in the standard car. And despite this being a mid-spec variant, you get most of the niceties (including new features) available with the car.
The Tata Altroz Racer R2 comes packing with most of the niceties including a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, automatic climate control, an 8-speaker Harman / Kardon sound system, cruise control, a single-pane sunroof and a wireless phone charger.

The major miss in this variant are front ventilated seats along with connected car tech and an air purifier.
In terms of safety, you get six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, a 360-degree camera and rear parking sensors.
The Tata Altroz Racer is powered by a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine belting out 120 PS and 170 Nm. The Nexon-sourced engine is available only with a 6-speed manual transmission, but we hope an automatic transmission is introduced down the line to make it more desirable.
The Tata Altroz Racer R2 is priced at Rs 10.49 lakh (ex-showroom). It locks horns with the Hyundai i20 N Line, while being a sportier alternative to the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Toyota Glanza.
