Barely a few days after putting out the teaser, BigWing India has launched the 2021 Honda Gold Wing Tour in India in 6-speed manual transmission as well as the Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) + Airbag variant. The luxury tourer from Team Red was updated earlier this year with a few minor changes.
What's The Price? Who Are Its Rivals?
The 2021 Honda Gold Wing Tour has been launched at Rs 37.20 lakh, which is Rs 10.35 lakh more than the previous model. The tourer is also available in the top-of-the-line DCT + Airbag variant which demands Rs 39.16 lakh. Honda’s juggernaut locks horns with the Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special which starts at Rs 31.99 lakh.
What's New?
The Honda Gold Wing underwent a major overhaul in 2018. For 2021, the Japanese brand has updated the tourer with a new set of 55W speakers that are claimed to produce better, crisper sound. For the Tour variant, the pillion ergonomics have been slightly altered for better comfort.
What's Unchanged?
Apart from making it BS6 compliant, Honda hasn’t fiddled much with the bike. The Gold Wing continues to use the same 1833cc flat-six motor producing 124.6PS at 5500rpm and 170Nm at 4500rpm, same as the older model. It even retains the 7-inch full colour TFT display, complete with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Honda has deployed a lot of electronic nannies in the flagship tourer. Right from ABS and traction control to hill assist control and even a reverse and ‘walking’ mode to ensure living with this 357kg bike is easier.
The 2021 Honda Gold Wing continues to use the double wishbone front suspension and a monoshock mounted to the single-sided swingarm. Dropping the anchor on this behemoth are six-pot calipers at the front clamping onto twin 320mm discs and a 316mm disc at the rear paired with three-piston calipers.
ZigSays
The 2021 Honda Gold Wing is the crème de la crème of touring motorcycles and comes with a long list of features and respectable performance to justify the price tag. With the BMW K 1600 GTL missing in action here, your options are limited. However, the Rs 10 lakh hike over the outgoing model, with just a few minor updates on the bike, seems a bit too much.
