TVS recently teased the new Star City Plus and now, it has launched the 2021 Edition of the BS6 Star City Plus with a front disc brake. The new variant will be available in only the black-red dual-tone colour option for now.
What’s The Price? Who Are Its Rivals?
The new variant of the Star City Plus is priced at Rs 68,465 (ex-showroom Delhi). As compared to its drum-equipped variant, the disc brake variant costs Rs 2,600 more. In the commuter segment, it rivals the Hero Splendor iSmart and the Bajaj Platina 110 H-Gear. It even goes up against the Honda Activa 6G and the Hero Maestro Edge 110 in terms of pricing.
How Many Variants Are There?
The Star City Plus now comes in three variants: Single-tone with drum brakes, dual-tone with drum brakes and dual-tone with a front disc brake.
What’s New?
Like its sportier siblings, the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V and the RTR 160 4V, the Star City Plus now gets a petal disc up front. It is much smaller at 240mm, but the addition of a disc brake is a good move as it offers much better braking performance than drum brakes and improves safety, especially in a panic situation.
What's Unchanged?
Pretty much everything except for the front braking setup. The Star City Plus still keeps all its strong points like the segment-first LED headlamp, a USB charging port and sporty aesthetics. Along with this, the bike features a semi-digital instrument cluster with an Econometer, service reminder and a malfunction light.
The 2021 Star City Plus continues to use the same BS6-compliant 109cc single-cylinder motor with EcoThrust FI which makes 8.19PS and 8.7Nm. The 4-speed gearbox has also been carried forward.
As for underpinnings, the bike still rides on a telescopic fork and 5-step adjustable dual-shock absorbers.
ZigSays
We’ve been hoping for TVS to offer a disc brake variant for the Star City Plus for a long time and we’re happy that it has finally listened. This addition makes the Star City Plus one of the most feature packed bikes in the commuter segment and an excellent proposition in the market, even with the Rs 2,600 hike.
