We sorely missed the Jeep Compass Trailhawk when the standard Compass got a midlife facelift back in January 2021, but now it's back in India in all its Trailhawk glory. Priced at Rs 30.72 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), it is based on the standard top-spec Model S, and is essentially a Compass in a more rugged direction.
So what’s new in the facelifted Compass Trailhawk? Looking at the design as a start, the updates are in line with the standard model which include a revised front grille, tweaked grille, new front bumper, as well as sleeker LED headlights and DRLs.
The Trailhawk-specific bits include special bumpers that aid the approach and departure angles, tweaks to the ride height, and new 17-inch alloys with Falken Wildpeak H/T tyres wrapped around it. There’s also the ‘4x4 Trail Rated’ badge, red accented ‘Compass’ badging on the front doors, another ‘Trailhawk’ badge on the tailgate, a red toe hook in the rear bumper and hood decals.

While the earlier Trailawk lost a few features, the latest one gets all the bells and whistles from the Model S variant it is based on. Key bits include powered and ventilated front seats, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, a 10.25-inch digital drivers display, 9-speaker sound system, as well as auto headlamps and wipers. For the Trailhawk, we’ve also got black leather seats with the Trailhawk inscription.
Six airbags, a 360-degree camera, full underbody protection plates, electronic stability control (ESC), electronic roll mitigation, as well as hill start assist make up the key safety features.
Under the hood we’ve got the same 2-litre diesel engine from the standard model that makes 170PS and 350Nm. It is paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission that drives all four wheels. Considering the Trailhawk is meant for a bit of off-road fun, the folks at Jeep have reworked the suspension to handle the rough stuff better. There’s also a low-range drive system with a 20:1 crawl ratio, and a dedicated ‘Rock’ mode on top of the existing traction modes already available on the standard Compass (Snow, Mud, and Auto).
Here’s how much of a difference the updated model is to the model sold earlier as claimed by Jeep:
Trail Rated Specifications |
Old |
New |
Approach Angle |
26.5° |
30° |
Breakover Angle |

All this off-road flair makes the updated Jeep Compass Trailhawk Rs 1.38 lakh dearer over the standard Model S diesel automatic it is based on. But hey, if you’ve got the dosh to want rugged feels in a premium SUV, the Compass Trailhawk seems to fit that bill. We’ve also had our first taste of the off-road focused Compass in our first drive review.
Its alternatives within this price range include the VW Tiguan, Citroen C5 Aircross, and the Skoda Kodiaq.
