While we were gauged to the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, BMW took everyone by surprise with the launch of the iX1 LWB (Long Wheelbase) at the Auto Expo 2025. This locally produced electric SUV is priced at Rs 49 lakh (ex-showroom) and combines an extended wheelbase with a suite of luxurious features. Designed to appeal to those who value both performance and rear-seat comfort, the iX1 LWB has already commenced deliveries. The BMW iX1 LWB carries a sophisticated design with distinct BMW elements. At the front, it features a blanked-off kidney grille with silver inserts, flanked by adaptive dual-pod LED headlights. The profile is accentuated by flush door handles, dual-tone alloy wheels, and a blacked-out roof for a sporty appearance. The rear design is minimalistic, adding to its clean and modern aesthetic.
The interior of the iX1 LWB is designed to provide luxury and comfort. Its extended wheelbase offers enhanced legroom for rear passengers. The cabin is equipped with sport seats, a panoramic glass roof, and dual-zone automatic climate control with rear-seat air vents.
Feature highlights include BMW’s signature curved display with a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display and a 10.7-inch central infotainment touchscreen which supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, wireless phone charger, ambient lighting, and powered front seats with memory functions.
On the safety front, the iX1 LWB comes equipped with eight airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts, a parking assistant with, reversing assistant, and park distance control and a 360-degree camera with blind-spot monitor as well as ADAS functionalities.
The BMW iX1 LWB is powered by a 66.4 kWh battery pack paired with a single electric motor producing 204 PS and 250 Nm of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 8.6 seconds and offers a claimed range of 531 km (MIDC). The SUV supports DC fast charging of up to 130 kW, which can charge the battery from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in under 30 minutes. AC charging of up to 11 kW is also supported.
The BMW iX1 LWB is priced at Rs 49 lakh (ex-showroom). In India, it will compete with other premium electric SUVs such as the Volvo XC40 Recharge, Mercedes-Benz EQA, and the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
