BREAKING: The R15S V3 Is The New ‘Practical’ Supersports From Yamaha

Last month, we broke the news of Yamaha working on the YZF-R15S. Today, the Japanese bikemaker has launched the ‘practical’ superport in India.

What's The Price? Who Are Its Rivals?

The Yamaha YZF-R15S V3 has been priced at Rs 1,57,600 (ex-showroom Delhi), exactly the same as the YZF-R15 V3. While there’s no direct competition to the R15S V3 in India, it will face the heat from the Suzuki Gixxer SF. However, the latter isn’t as sophisticated or powerful.

What's New?

The highlight of the Yamaha R15S V3 is the “practical” single-seat configuration. With this model, Yamaha intends to make the supersport more suited to everyday use, expanding the customer base in the process. Also, what works for it is that it’s more affordable than the R15 V4.

 What's Unchanged?

Apart from the ‘unibody seat’, the new Yamaha YZF-R15S V3 is exactly the same as the standard R15V3. Everything has been lifted straight from the split-seat version, right from the styling to the underpinnings.

Even the VVA-equipped 155cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder four-valve engine is the same, and it continues to make 18.6PS at 10,000rpm and 14.1Nm at 8,500rpm. This engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox paired with a slip and assist clutch. Interestingly, with the YZF-R15 V4 in the picture, the “practical” iteration of the bike produces 0.2PS more and 0.1Nm less than the track scorcher.

The R15 has constantly been raking in good sales for Yamaha, and with the introduction of the new R15 V4, the numbers have only increased. Introducing the R15 V3 in a more practical and usable avatar is expected to further ramp up sales.

 After the recent price hike of the R15 V4, the new R15S V3 is now a whopping Rs 13,200 cheaper, so Yamaha will certainly not lose out on its loyalists.
