Bajaj has silently launched the Avenger 220 Street in India after discontinuing it in 2020. This bike goes on sale along with the Avenger 220 Cruise and the Avenger 160 Street.
The Bajaj Avenger 220 Street has been priced at Rs 1,42,029 (ex-showroom Pune), which is exactly the same as the 220 Cruise variant. There aren’t any cruisers in this price bracket, and the closest competitor is the Keeway K-Light 250 V which is priced at Rs 2.89 lakh (ex-showroom India).
The Bajaj Avenger 220 has two variants – the Cruise and the Street.
Bajaj has used a bunch of parts from the Avenger 160 Street in this 220cc variant. So, the headlight, alloy wheels, suspension, handlebar and grab rail, are all shared with the 160 Street. Even the TVS Eurogrip tyres on this bike are borrowed from the smaller bike. Now, even though the full-digital console is the same as before, it now comes with an amber backlight.
The Bajaj Avenger 220 Street comes with the same 220cc air-/oil-cooled single-cylinder engine as before. It makes 19.03PS and 17.55Nm, and is now BS6 Phase 2 compliant and E20 fuel compatible.
Bajaj sold 6,216 units of the Avenger 220 Cruise between April 2022 and March 2023, which is quite low. And despite the low popularity, why Bajaj chose to add another variant is still confusing. Could it be because over 21,000 units of the Avenger 160 Street were sold in the same period? But if not, the necessity of a small-capacity cruiser in our market is diminishing, and just like the Avenger 220 Cruise, this variant too may not rake in good sales.
