Bengaluru-based EV startup Oben EV has launched its first electric motorcycle, the Rorr, at Rs 99,999 (ex-showroom Maharashtra, including Fame II and state subsidies). Pre-bookings for the e-bike will commence online from March 18 at Rs 999.
In terms of design, the production model of the Oben Rorr stays true to what was teased earlier via digital renderings, adopting a minimalistic, neo-retro design, further accentuated by the circular LED headlight setup. When looked closely, the Oben Rorr reminds us of the Honda CB300R, with a similar styling.
Electrifying the Oben Rorr is a 4.4kWh battery pack with an IP67 waterproof rating, paired to a 10kW frame mounted motor producing 4kW of continuous power and has a IP65 waterproof rating. To give perspective, Rorr’s direct rival, the Tork Kratos gets a slightly smaller 4kWh battery pack paired to a 4.5kW axial flux motor. The Rorr is claimed to offer an IDC range of 200km, along with a top speed of 100kmph. Another impressive aspect about this bike is that it can achieve 0-40kmph in just 3 seconds.
The time taken to completely juice up the batteries on the Rorr is about two hours. The company also claims a charging rate of 1km per minute. The Oben Rorr comes with a 15A domestic socket along with a portable charger, for on-the-go charging.
Handling the suspension duties are a telescopic fork up front and monoshock at the rear. The e-bike gets ample water wading capacity of 230mm and a ground clearance of 200mm. Stopping the bike are discs on both ends.
In terms of features, the e-motorcycle comes packed with an LCD digital instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity, driver alert system, geo-fencing, geo-tagging, theft protection, ride information and three riding modes - havoc (100km), city (120km) and eco (150km range).
Additionally, the Bengaluru-based manufacturer is offering a three-year/60,000kms battery warranty and a three-year motor and controller warranty. With the new manufacturing facility in Bengaluru, the company aims to produce three lakh units per year at maximum capacity.
With the launch, Oben EV has also disclosed that the Rorr will be available for test riding starting May 2022 and the deliveries for the final product will commence in June 2022.
Oben EV has made an interesting product which is feature packed and flaunts a highly competitive price. The bike primarily rivals the Tork Kratos (Rs 1.32 lakh) and the more commuter-oriented Revolt RV400 (Rs 1.24 lakh), ex-showroom, without subsidies.
