Hyundai India has taken the wraps off the Exter SUV in India. Prices have been announced today and the micro SUV starts from Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom). It’s the carmaker’s answer to the Tata Punch. The Hyundai Exter is offered with either a choice of a petrol or CNG powertrain and comes in a total of five trims.

In terms of styling, there are split headlamps with the DRLs featuring a ‘H’ motif and a large rectangular airdam. A skid plate in the bumper gives it a nice macho appearance. In profile, the Exter gets an upright and boxy silhouette, while touches like rugged body cladding around the squared out wheel arches gives it a nice SUV-like vibe. At the rear, the tail lamps feature a H-motif once again and are connected by a black plastic trim.
The dashboard design is very familiar as it’s a photocopy of the Grand i10 Nios. Not a bad thing in our opinion as the dashboard design in the Nios looks premium and modern. To distinguish it from the hatchback, though, the micro SUV gets three interior colour schemes: black / blue, black / green and black / light grey. You can take a more in-depth look at its cabin here.
In terms of features, the Exter gets most areas covered with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, wireless phone charger, a sunroof, cruise control and a digitised driver’s display. On the safety front, it gets six airbags as standard, electronic stability control, rear parking sensors and ABS with EBD.
The Hyundai Exter is offered with the familiar 1.2-litre petrol engine, teamed with either a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. This engine is also offered with a factory fit CNG for those looking for a frugal option. Take a look at the detailed specifications:
