The bike gets a new eye-catching paint scheme

The Yamaha MT-15 is a great little bike but unfortunately, the version we get in India is rather castrated, missing out on bits like the chunky upside-down fork and aluminium swingarm seen in South East Asian markets. As if to further rub salt in our wounds, Yamaha has launched an MT-15 Limited Edition in Thailand and it looks more special than ever.

For the most part, the bike is covered in a lovely shade of cyan blue, giving it a vibrant, tropical vibe. This is nicely offset by the fluorescent yellow paintwork seen on the wheels and fuel tank. The frame, belly pan and engine bay continue to get the matte black treatment. So does the exhaust system, but we wish Yamaha had done something a little more special in this area since it looks rather bland compared to the rest of the bike.

The chunky upside-down fork legs look absolutely resplendent in their golden anodised finish, and the glossy black handlebar is quite neat as well. Aside from the aesthetic differences, there are no mechanical changes to the bike. So it continues to be powered by the 155cc VVA-equipped motor from the R15 V3, which in India produces 18.5PS and 13.9Nm.

The effect of the cost-cutting measures in India is plain to see because while the bike sells for Rs 1.37 lakh in our country, the Thai population has to pay 98,500 Baht or Rs 2.32 lakh for an MT-15. There’s no word yet on exact production plans, but the name indicates this version will be manufactured in limited numbers with the chances of an India launch being slim to none.
