UPDATE: Kia India has revealed the facelifted Seltos in India.
Kia India will take the wraps off the facelifted Seltos on July 4. It is the first major design refresh for the SUV, which has been on sale in India since August 2019. Besides the updated design, the Seltos would also get a handful of new features and an updated engine option.
So if you had your eyes on one, here are the top five things you need to know:
By now, you must have found out what’s new in the facelifted Seltos thanks to multiple leaked images, but here’s a quick refresh: The Tiger Nose grille is now a size larger with snazzier inserts, while the LED DRLs are now reprofiled. The tweaked front bumper adds more aggression to the design, especially for the GT Line trim.
In profile, the only change is the 18-inch alloys from the X-Line trim. At the rear, your eyes will be drawn to the connected tail lamps with the revised bumper below . If you opt for the GT Line trim, there are a set of twin exhausts that add to the style of the SUV.
On the inside, a teaser confirmed the dual screen layout – comprising the touchscreen infotainment system and digital driver’s display – a la the EV6. Below the touchscreen are sleek AC vents. There’s now a rotary gear knob for the automatic variants. There are also a handful of new features, which we’ll be talking about next.
A handful of new kit will be added to the Seltos, which includes a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control and most importantly, ADAS features. Features such as ventilated front seats, a head-up display, Bose sound system, wireless phone charger, and a 360-degree camera should be carried forward.
And as for the rest of the safety kit, it would get six airbags, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability control, and hill start assist.
Kia will take this opportunity to introduce the 160PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine with the nameplate. That’s around 20PS more than the outgoing 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine, which has already been discontinued. Apart from that, the existing 115PS 1.5-litre petrol and 116PS 1.5-litre diesel engines will be carried forward unchanged.
All these engines should be paired with a six-speed iMT (clutchless manual) and existing automatic transmissions.
The facelifted Kia Seltos is expected to command a premium over the outgoing model that’s priced from Rs 10.89 lakh (ex-showroom). Expect the prices to be announced soon after its debut. It will renew its rivalry with the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Skoda Kushaq, Toyota Hyryder and the upcoming Citroen C3 Aircross and Honda Elevate.
