All these models are expected to be brand new nameplates and could replace certain models in the carmaker’s existing lineup

It looks like Maruti Suzuki hasn’t given up on ICE cars yet, as it has a couple of brand new launches lined up till 2031. Speaking at an interview, RC Bhargava, chairman, Maruti Suzuki India, said that the carmaker is planning to launch 5 ICE-powered cars with new nameplates till the aforementioned timeline. Here are our guesses on what these models could be and we are pretty sure our estimate wouldn’t be far off.

Kia Carens-rivalling MPV

We suspect Maruti Suzuki to introduce a slightly larger MPV that will slot above the XL6 in the carmaker’s lineup. This model is likely to go up against the Kia Carens, which has been very popular in the Indian market. Also, there’s a big gap between the XL6 and the Invicto in the carmaker’s lineup and filling up the gap with a new Kia Carens competitor would definitely make sense for Maruti Suzuki.

Grand Vitara-based 7-seater SUV

The Grand Vitara has been an extremely successful model in the compact SUV space, such that the Indian marque could introduce a 7-seater version of the same to go up against the Hyundai Alcazar. Midsize 7-seater SUVs have always been popular in India and Maruti would definitely want to grab a slice of a pie in this segment. It will also be an option for those who want a 7-seater Maruti Suzuki, but can’t stretch all the way up to the Invicto.

Tata Punch/Hyundai Exter Rival

The Maruti Suzuki Ignis currently goes up against the aforementioned rivals. But let’s be honest, it’s more of a hatchback rather than a micro SUV. And looking at the amount of noise Tata and Hyundai are making with their micro SUVs, Maruti Suzuki would definitely want to spoil their party with its own iteration of a butch micro SUV.

Two New Hatchbacks

Even though SUVs are becoming increasingly popular, we believe Maruti Suzuki hasn’t given up on hatchbacks yet. This has been one of their strong points, especially in the entry-level segment where small Maruti hatches are quite popular in the Indian market. And the carmaker could introduce two new models in the sub Rs 10 lakh space. One is expected to be a Celerio replacement, while the other might be an Alto replacement, considering they want to give both models a new lease of life in that segment, though with new nameplates.

So these are the 5 new Maruti Suzuki models that may hit the market by 2031. Which of these cars are you keeping your eye out for? Let us know in the comments.
