An unfortunate late session red flag scuppered the Indian driver’s chances of improving on his qualifying lap

It was a difficult start to the fourth round of the 2021 FIA Formula 2 Championship for Carlin’s Jehan Daruvala, qualifying in 12th place for the feature race at Silverstone, UK. His teammate, Dan Ticktum, lines up fourth on the grid.

The first runs saw Daruvala go eighth fastest and Ticktum second, with just three tenths of a second covering the two Carlin teammates. Unfortunately, a late session red flag meant, neither drivers improved in their final runs, with the Indian driver dropping to 12th place, and Ticktum to fourth position.

While it's been an unlucky qualifying session for Daruvala, the field spread is so close that it could be anyone’s game for the race. He’ll be lining up 12th on the grid for the first of the two sprint races, with the grid order for the second sprint race being the top 10 finishers (from Sprint Race 1) reversed.

The first sprint race will take place on Saturday, 1:15pm (IST). The second one begins at 7:10pm (IST). All races will be broadcast on Eurosport.
