As was the case in Monza, Carlin’s Jehan Daruvala has done it again, qualifying second for the feature race at the sixth round of the 2021 Formula 2 season at Sochi, Russia. On the other side of the garage, the Red Bull Junior driver's teammate, Dan Ticktum, qualified tenth on the grid.
The 30-minute qualifying session saw the tyres taking a little longer than usual to get up to optimal temperature, so it took a couple of flying laps to get the ideal lap time. In the first couple of runs, Dauvala managed to slot into third position. Heading into the final flying laps, the Indian driver improved on his previous best lap to go one position higher in second place, just a couple of tenths off pole position.
Thanks to Formula 2’s top 10 reverse grid rules kicking in, Daruvala will start ninth for the first of two sprint races tomorrow. For the second sprint race, the grid order is decided by the top 10 finishers (from Sprint Race 1) reversed.
The first sprint race will take place on Saturday, 12:55pm (IST), followed by the second one at 7:10pm (IST). All races will be broadcast on Eurosport.
