A difficult start for Carlin at the penultimate round of the 2021 Formula 2 season at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, as Jehan Daruvala could only qualify 11th on the grid for the feature race. The Red Bull Junior driver's teammate, Dan Ticktum managed a 13th place grid slot, not helped by a late session puncture.
The 30-minute qualifying session saw drivers taking multiple flying laps to get the ideal lap time. The initial runs, saw Daruvala slot into 15th position. The Indian driver did improve in the end, but it was only enough for 11th.
What further puts Daruvala on the back foot is that he was just one position off benefitting from Formula 2’s top 10 reverse grid rules kicking in for the first sprint race tomorrow. But Daruvala does have the opportunity to make amends, as for the second sprint race, the grid order is decided by the top 10 finishers (from Sprint Race 1) reversed.
The first sprint race will flag off at 5:55pm (IST) on Saturday, followed by the second one at 12:05am (IST) Sunday morning. All races will be broadcast on Eurosport.
