The Indian driver was just one place off getting reverse grid pole position for the second sprint race

It was a difficult day in the office for Carlin’s Jehan Daruvala, as he finished 11th place in Sprint Race 1 at  the second round of the 2021 FIA Formula 2 World Championship in Monaco. His teammate, Dan Ticktum, finished in 6th position.

Starting 11th on the grid, Daruvala kept 11th place off the line, and was stuck there for the majority of the race considering the lack of overtaking opportunities at the tight and twisty streets of Monaco. That meant any hopes to gain a position was either due to a crash or a technical failure up front. And that is precisely what happened when Chiristian Lundgard’s engine issues put him out of the race. That promoted Daruvala up into 10th position, crucially enough to qualify on reverse grid pole position for the second sprint race.

It was all looking to be a nice strategic finish for Daruvala, but he was robbed of 10th place on the final lap, with a controversial overtake from Marcus Armstrong on the final corner. That meant, Daruvala finished where he qualified in 11th.

Daruvala’s difficult race to 11th place finish means he'll be lining up in the same spot for tomorrow’s second sprint race, as well as the main feature race since he qualified 11th overall. And going by how the first sprint race transpired, it is set to be a long uphill battle for the Indian driver to salvage points.

Sprint Race 2 will commence at 11:50am (IST), whereas the feature race will take place at 8:45pm (IST). All races will be broadcast on EuroSport.
