Carlin’s Jehan Daruvala ended the second round of the 2021 FIA Formula 2 Championship with a non-finish at the feature race in Monaco. Things weren't that different on the other side of the garage, as teammate Dan Ticktum also retired from the race while fighting for podium places.
Starting 11th on the grid, everything that could go wrong for Daruvala, went wrong in the feature race. The Indian driver dropped to 12th right off the bat, and then incurred front wing damage, which led to a pitstop well ahead of schedule. Languishing at the tail end of the field, he was then hit with a 5-second time penalty for speeding in the pitlane. And then a race-ending incident with Gianluca Petecof capped off a tough second round of the season for Jehan Daruvala.
Overall, it was a race weekend to forget for Daruvala, as he has now dropped to 8th position in the drivers championship, with a long uphill task ahead of him to catch championship leader Guanyu Zhou. But there’s still another six rounds to go, and anything can happen in Formula 2.
Jehan Daruvala will be looking to bounceback at round three of the season in Baku, Azerbaijan. The race week will commence from June 4-6 and will be broadcast on EuroSport.
